Oceans of Hope will visit Lisbon, the capital of Portugal, from 25 July to 2 August 2014. Lisbon is Europe’s second oldest capital; only Athens in Greece is older. It was once home to explorers including Vasco da Gama, Magellan and Prince Henry the Navigator and the launch pad for many of the world’s greatest voyages, so it is fitting that the pioneers taking part in the world’s first circumnavigation by a crew of people with MS should choose it as a port of call.

In the wake of pioneering nautical explorers

It is truly a city of the sea, the only European capital where you can watch the sun set over the ocean, has sandy beaches and one of the world’s largest, state-of-the-art aquariums. Set in one of the planet’s greatest natural harbours, which attracted civilisations including Phoenicians, Celts, Romans, Visigoths and Moors, it is home to a number of World Heritage monuments.

Oceans of Hope will be berthed in the Marina Parque das Nações.
