From Rebeira to Porto

OoH Jul 20, 2014, by Oceans of Hope News team in Yacht

The Oceans of Hope is spending the day in Porto having arrived in the city last night around 2100.  The Skipper reports, “The crew had enjoyed a day with great weather, a bit of sailing and a beautiful coastline.”

MS Crew member Soeren Ronn Willesen describes the journey from Rebeira to Porto in today’s blog.  It started off badly with the most horrifying of all horrors in modernity – the cold shower!”

It continued to frustrate because the weather was against them and this meant that the main engine was needed to power the boat and the crew had little to do.  However, the crew mad the most of this waiting time in different ways, saying that, “there are always things to be done on a boat; the wet vacuum is used to clean out the bilges, reinforcements are made here and there, lines are coiled, and meals are prepared. Still there are some hours where you just have to find your book or the newspaper that has followed you around for weeks.”

However, the wind turned in their favour and they were able to sail into Porto to enjoy a cup of coffee and, better still, a hot shower.

The boat expects to depart Porto sometime tomorrow afternoon and until then the crew will enjoy a day off, as the Skipper explains this will give them time, “to gain some energy for the last leg before Lisbon.”
