The heat of the last couple of days has been taking its toll on the crew with multiple sclerosis who are part of this great adventure.

As Jens Thomsen writes in his blog today, “Heat has played a major factor on everybody on board as temperatures have made every move a challenging task. Despite a time schedule that we have focus on keeping in regards to our arrival in Boston in a few weeks, we take the privilege of another Atlantic Ocean swim. Crystal clear weather at over 28C - this is an adventure that is beyond expectations.”

Bertram Christensen, Oceans of Hope’s bosun, reports, “Having just 1,100 nautical miles left to Bermuda we are now over halfway of the 2,400 miles between Madeira and Bermuda. As we hit the 1,200nm bar yesterday, it was decided to have another dip in the blue.

“The atmosphere on board is amazing and the team spirit is ever growing. On one hand the crew is excited to reach Boston and complete this incredible journey but on the other hand people don't want this great trip to end.

“We are currently steering directly at Bermuda running just the main engine and a stay sail for the second day in a row, and unfortunately no decent wind is expected until later this week.”

Oceans of Hope is due to arrive in Boston, USA, on 8 September.  There are opportunities for people with MS from across New England to get involved with Oceans of Hope by joining us for a taster sail. There are free sessions on Monday 8 September, when you can join the flotilla to welcome Oceans of Hope to Boston, or come sailing on board Oceans of Hope for a couple of hours on Sunday 14 September.

Participation is free of charge and we will supply life jackets, waterproofs and refreshments.
