Today I woke up at 7:00 a.m. and it sounded like a snowstorm. I decided to get deeper in my warm sleeping bag. Later I got up and dressed with a thick sweater and prepared a plate of fruit. At 9:00 a.m. we had a nice breakfast together. After this we talked about our options for the day. We decided to stay one more day at Liberty Landing in New Jersey because the wind was too strong and it was very cold. Tomorrow we will get up at 4:00 a.m. to sail in the sunrise and see the stars.

After cleaning the boat I went with Martin by ferry to New York City. The sun was shining, but it was so cold that we went immediately in a nice little restaurant and ate a hot soup. For sightseeing we visited the area around One World Tower and were impressed by the moving memorial.  Back on the boat we heated up with tea and cookies. This is my 12^th day on the boat and I must concentrate that I don’t forget my medication to protect me against sclerosis. I feel very good and always ready for the next adventure.

This morning at 04:00 took up our mooring lines to make our way out of the crowded rivers between Long Island and New Jersey. As we motored down the urban coast we would pass one massive container ship after the other while the disappearing skyline behind us was competing with the stars above. The golden sun rose just as we got out on open water, and as we hoisted the sails and set the course due south, the sense that we were finally on the move again settled on board. This will be our longest leg for the first crew on the American stretch of our circumnavigation, with 92 nautical miles and up to 15 hours at sea. We are looking forward to arriving in Atlantic City, especially for the crew to have completed their achievement of taking Oceans of Hope one more bit around the world.
