Challenges on the sail south - Blog by Marian

OoH Jan 10, 2015, by Marian Jensen in Yacht

When I was asked to write a blog, my immediate answer was: There are a million thoughts and none at all! So many things have happened during this week we have been on Oceans of Hope. For me, I have been put out of my comfort zone. I have no experience at all sailing. It is also so many people in such little space. Unfortunately, the issue today is fighting seasickness. Being on the edge of getting sick is kind of hard. Luckily, I'm not so sick that I can't appreciate it is a lovely morning and a great sail.

The other consideration of being so many people in a small place; I'm the only chook among roasters. I can only say that I'm well taken care of. Everybody helps when I need to lay down, and takes my part of the duties. It has been wonderful to meet my crew members and I enjoy all the nice talks that we have.

How about privacy? It is difficult to be shy when you are living in a cupboard, and that is alright! There is room that you can sit on your own if that is what you need.

Just to those I know: I haven't made any sacrifice to King Neptune - yet!

Report from Bosun Bertram:

9.5 knots towards Jamaica and we are practically flying! 15 knots of wind out of the east is giving us perfect conditions on a south-south easterly heading toward the eastern tip of Cuba. We have approximately 85 nautical miles to that turn, before we will head west straight to Jamaica. We're expecting the winds to die down a bit before it turns south-east, which should fit perfectly with our turn west.

Local time on board is 12:45 and our current position is 21'31.40N , 74'26.67W.
