Islands in sight! - Blog by Frederik

OoH Mar 8, 2015, by Frederik Blixenkrone-Møller in Yacht

Now we have come a long way, and actually we just spotted the first island of the Marquesas out in the horizon. There must be like 20 hours until we set foot ashore. I am really looking forward to having a bath, and maybe a shave. I don't know who is following this, but actually no one has ever seen me with a full beard before. Also, I am really looking forward to meeting the people from this other boat sailing around the world from Denmark who are also at Nuku Hiva right now. Then I'm just looking forward to seeing the nature, cook some good food, and it could be really cool if we could make a camp fire on some beach and grill some food for everybody!

It is really impressive that you can find nine people, who can work this well together. We have of course had our ups and downs, but really, we have just been so great together. For one you could give the ship a Michelin star, because we have been eating so well. Sorry we haven't taken too many pictures.

Now that we will come to Nuku Hiva and the Marquesas, where we will be doing some island hopping, I think for one that we will be burning off some more steam. We will be taking sails up and down much more often, and also we will get more continuous rest, when we are anchored most nights. People will have more energy, than in these last days of the crossing. I think we will have much more “hygge” from now on.

Though, we are sad to be saying goodbye to Peter. He is flying home when we arrive. But then again, we are looking forward to Mikkel coming on board!

And now we just need a little PS. Hey baby, I miss you. Say hi to the boys. Will try and call tomorrow.

Also a PPS to mom and dad and Gitte, and also Peter Biver Christensen.

Report from Bosun Bertram:

Land in sight! We have spotted the first island of the Marquesas, and we are now literally seeing the end of our Pacific Crossing. Less than a hundred nautical miles till we drop the hook and celebrate our arrival at the island of Nuku Hiva. Our crossing have been blessed with very favourable winds allowing us to cover the 3000 nautical miles in less than 16 days - keeping an average of just under 200 miles per day! The final 75 nautical miles we are doing with a genoa on the pole along with our trusty mainsail giving us a speed between 7 and 8 knots.

Local time onboard is 16:30 and our current location is 9,14.6S , 138,53.2W.
