Oceans of Hope arrives in Sydney – another ocean crossed

Oceans of Hope and her intrepid Trans-Tasman Sea crew arrived safely into Sydney Harbour from Auckland today under a clear blue sky and with a light breeze filling her sails. The benign conditions were an antidote to the heavy weather of the previous 48 hours, conditions which pushed the now close-knitted team to their limits – more about this soon from Skipper Jens.

The harbour was filled with sails as the Sunday racing fleet from our kind hosts, The Cruising Yacht Club of Australia, was out in force. Sydney’s famous ferries plied their trade, criss-crossing the sparkling harbour and adding to the spectacle of activity that greeted the eyes of our sailors who had spent the last ten days gazing at sky, sea and some rather large waves. Clearly relishing their arrival the crew guided Oceans of Hope up through the hectic harbour, sailing past the iconic Opera House and under the world famous Harbour Bridge before berthing at the CYCA.

A busy week now ensues with Taster Sailing Days for local people that live with MS and an official reception being hosted on Wednesday 27th May in Darling Harbour – this is also World MS Day and many visitors are expected to greet the boat at 1400hrs when she docks there.

Oceans of Hope will depart Sydney on June 2nd with a new MS Crew aboard heading for stopovers in Newcastle, Brisbane, Cairns and Darwin during the coming weeks. However, for now with yet another ocean crossed, the Oceans of Hope and her crew can enjoy some shoreside comforts and some true Australian hospitality.
