Whales, dolphins, dingoes and the adventure has just begun – Blog by Susanne
I am onboard Oceans of Hope. It is the best experience I have had. The trip from Newcastle to the Gold Coast was tough because of the wind, but also very educational for me. I got black and blue because of the boat rocking, and the pots and pans flying everywhere, but we still managed to have our dinner. I think we are a really great team, despite being different people.
Both in Newcastle and in Gold Coast we met others (mostly women) with MS who were coming to try sailing on Oceans of Hope for a couple of hours. We had breakfast together in the marina, sharing our experiences. They were very friendly and we waved the ship off and greeted them again as they returned. It was fantastic to see their joyful faces. They had enjoyed the sail. Some of them had been to sea before they got MS.
Today we have sailed from the Gold Coast under the shining sun. I have seen whales, dolphins, and I have even caught a fish! And there has been the prettiest view out in the horizon.
The adventure has just begun. And it's just so lovely that I am taking part in this voyage.
The 18th of June we will arrive in Cairns, where we disembark the ship and give our thanks for this wonderful and fantastic adventure. This I will never forget.
Report from Bosun Bertram:
To Fraser Island, the largest island made of sand in the entire world. A great stopover on our way to one of the world’s seven natural wonders – the Great Barrier Reef. We have anchored three different places on the south and the western side of Fraser Island, and this afternoon we took our trusty dinghy ashore to have a look at the places famous for their wild dingoes. Unfortunately, the outboard engine was not quite as trusty as usual, and our crew had to row both back and forth. Good excercise though! We pulled up the hook from the latest anchorage at 1500 this afternoon to make our way towards the Percy Isles another 280 miles north. With a 6 knot average we are estimated to arrive sometime in the morning on the 13th.
Local time onboard is 17:00 and our current position is 25,13.68S , 152,56.39E
