Morning has broken - Blog by Niels
“The morning dawns and the dark cold night sullenly flees”
Mornings are the best. It lightens in the east and slowly the contours of the boat and the others in the cockpit appears. Then comes the colours of the sky and the oilskins turn from black to red. Finally the sun breaks through and lights up the clouds we are sailing towards. Within half an hour the whole scenario changes from dark and cold, which may seem threatening, to mild and friendly tones.
That is why you should allow yourself to sail through the night once in a while. To experience why every songwriter has a tribute to morning.
Ps. I recommend you listen to Cat Stevens' version of "Morning has broken" while flipping through the pictures below.
Report from Bosun Josefine:
We have finally reached the Italian shore! Yesterday evening, before we sailed through the beautiful Strait of Messina, we decided to continue our voyage in order to reach Rome in time. The sea was calm and the sky yet again clear with meteors raining above our heads. During the night the wind picked up and we hit some spectacular thunder showers early this morning.
Unfortunately, the wind is still blowing from the wrong direction at a irregular speed of 10-25 knots. Is it as if it knows our route and has decided to keep up its resistance. Mr. Perkins is running at a 1600 RPM with the main- and staysail as support when possible. Looking forward to spending the night in the marina of Salerno.
