Oceans of Hope has returned to the Iberian Peninsula
Yesterday, Oceans of Hope arrived at Marina Port Vell in Barcelona. A flotilla of local yachts chartered by former crew members living with MS accompanied her to the finishing line.
The yacht and her crew were greeted by more than half of the 100 crew living with MS who have taken part in the global voyage, their spouses, friends and collaborators on the dock.
After berthing the Port Captain of the Port of Barcelona, Adolfo Romagosa, and the Danish Consulate General of Catalonia, Lau Andersen, welcomed Oceans of Hope and her crew.
The Danish Consulate General emphasised that a circumnavigation is a great challenge and achievement in itself. Not less so, sailing around the world with people with MS as crew is double the challenge.
Mikkel Anthonisen, Founder of Sailing Sclerosis, in his speech stressed the fact that the arrival to Barcelona is not an end to the project:
"It is the end of the beginning of a movement and a global network that shows what is possible when people with a chronic disease are empowered to conquer their individual challenges", he said.
After the reception and the compulsory group photo, all attendants gathered for a celebration on the dock in front of the decorated boats.
Oceans of Hope will be berthed at Marina Port Vell from October 5th to 12th. A special thanks to the marina and its staff for the great hospitality!
