A Mediterranean Birthday Party - report from Bosun Josefine
After a busy night - going south from the Marmara Sea and into the Mediterranean between the Turkish and Greek shores - we are now on our way to Italy. We had planned for a stopover in Athens, but the weather forecast doesn’t allow us to take a day off. Up until now we have kept a good pace of average 10 knots thanks to our 350 m2 spinnaker.
Yesterday we celebrated Mads’ 37th birthday onboard. Oceans of Hope was decorated with balloons and flags for the special occasion. We all gathered for cake and “Happy Birthday” in the afternoon. As a birthday gift Mads got the honour of raising the Greek guest flag - after taking care of his duties as a first maid.
After a rough morning with heavy thunder showers and wind speed up to 17 knots, we decided to spend this afternoon anchoring up in a peaceful bay. Here everyone got the chance to get some rest and go for a swim in the deep blue, salty sea.
As soon as we finish the cleaning after dinner we will sail off again. We have some 350M to go till we reach the Strait of Messina - the toe of the Italian boot - which will be our next stop.
