The Days that Passed by... blog by Joan Haahr Hvas

Sitting here it is a quiet morning in Liberty Landing Marina. I am pondering the last 12 days on board Oceans of Hope. I remember I was excited to meet the new crew, I was going to be sailing with. Here I met the sweetest people you can imagine. We, as a group, work fantastically together. What one can’t do, the other one can. Funny to see us now, as we all move comfortably around the boat, and to think back on the first couple of days, where we were all so nervous about the unusual movements. Now we know where all ropes lead, and how they work. We have had lessons from Jens on how the wind works on the sails, the wind direction and the current.

Today it is Halloween, and we are about to decorate the boat with all the lights, ghosts, pumpkins and such, that Kristian and I bought two days ago. We are excited, if we get to see some big parades – but first we are going to meet Patty’s father for dinner.

We have had wonderful days with mixed weather, though no rain. It is amazing to just sit and let your thoughts pass and send them off with the current to an unknown destination. I am glad, proud and thankful to be a part of such a fantastic project.
