My favourite Oceans of Hope moment – Martin Borre

OoH Aug 31, 2015, by Martin Binderup Borre in Yacht

The leg of the Oceans of Hope circumnavigation that I participated in started in Newport, Rhode Island, USA. All together the crew consisted of nine people: three of the permanent crew and six were people with MS. Among the latter was a girl that I had just married nine months earlier and who had MS to the same extent as I had.

Being at the end of the hurricane season the Atlantic Ocean was still in turmoil leading to nausea and seasickness and we took shelter in the Long Island Sound. These waters eventually led us to New York on the day before Halloween! After having celebrated for a day or two we left New York at four a.m., on a clear and freezing cold November morning. When the lights of the buildings and bridges of this great city was mirrored in the Hudson River it created a spectacular sight, a moment I will remember.
