Oceans of Hope and her crew have arrived at the British Kiel Yacht Club, Germany, this morning ahead of their transfer to Bahnhofskai in Kiel’s inner harbour tomorrow afternoon.

The crew were tired but very happy with their first overnight sail of the 61,000-kilometre voyage. With 20 knots of wind from the southwest, they were thrilled to enjoy the kind of upwind conditions Oceans of Hope was built for.

The design of the 20-metre yacht is a Challenge 67, built to sail the ‘wrong way’ around the world, that is, against the prevailing winds.

Marie Stjernholm said helming the yacht in the breezy conditions was, “absolutely brilliant, I loved it!”

Founder of the Oceans of Hope project, Mikkel Anthonisen, said he thought the night sailing was the best part of the voyage so far.

“Me too!” added Mads Tobias Hansen as he helped moor the yacht.

After breakfast and showers the crew will catch up on some sleep and do some work on the yacht to prepare her for the arrival at Bahnhofskai tomorrow afternoon. She is due to arrive there at approximately 1300 local time.

The city of Kiel is getting ready for Kieler Woche, one of the biggest events in the European sailing calendar, which gets underway on Saturday.
