A kind of magic

More than 40 people from across New England have sailed with Oceans of Hope during the yacht’s visit to Boston, two travelling more than five hours to take part in the experience.

It’s all part of Oceans of Hope’s mission to change perceptions of multiple sclerosis and to inspire people to follow their dreams, whatever they might be, as well as creating networks between the MS and sailing communities around the world.

Susan decided to come sailing to give her the confidence to book a whale-watching trip, “Something I didn't think I’d be able to do,” she explained. Stepping ashore afterwards, she’s already making plans for more sailing in the future.

“That was so much fun,” said Darlene, who had taken the helm of Oceans of Hope to steer her during the two-hour sail. “I was a bit worried I’d crash into something though!”

Juliet was all smiles as she stepped ashore as well, the sailing experience a precursor to another adrenaline-fuelled experience: she is about to celebrate her 71st birthday with a tandem skydive!

Back on the dock the new crew exchanged phone numbers, posed for some fun polaroid photos to take away as a memento of their day and snapped ‘selfies’ with each other and the Oceans of Hope crew.

Carol was the last to leave the boat and was so delighted with the experience she is already making plans to carry on sailing and apply to take part in the voyage. “I have to push this further. It was just magical,” she said.

Anyone who has come into contact with Oceans of Hope and her crew knows there is a certain kind of magic that happens when people step aboard.
