The Equator Crossing - King Neptune Ceremony by Bertram

OoH Feb 6, 2015, by Bertram Christensen in Yacht

"This is our first meal in the southern hemisphere!"

“This is my first night watch in the southern latitudes"

"Let's have a coffee on this side of the equator"

Celebrations were many, but above all we had an amazing naming ceremony yesterday afternoon around 18:30, after having counted down to the 0th latitude. All hands on deck and don't wear anything that can't take some stains!

The poor crew felt a dire sense of fear as they were led to the foredeck by King Neptune and his companions, who acknowledged their crossing of the equator with a naming ceremony with whatever products that had expired in the latest week at sea - of course after being named well themselves.

A good salt water shower and a hot meal later, and you almost wouldn't have guessed that this crew of sailors had just crossed the equator. Only their new names after the various Galapagos Islands will distinguish them from mere landlubbers!

With the main sail and the genoa going an average of 6.5 knots we are approximately 3 hours out of Puerto Ayora of Santa Cruz, where we will drop the hook and eventually set food on the Galapagos Islands.

Local time onboard is 10:00 and our current position is 0,39.9S , 90,8.87W - note the southern latitude!
