The Squid - Blog by Frederik

OoH Feb 26, 2015, by Frederik Blixenkrone-Møller in Yacht

Today it is Thursday and yesterday, actually the day before that, we caught a couple of squid that we fried in a pan. Really tasty with garlic, salt, pepper and some oil. Later on a flying fish came by, and that went the same way. Tasted nice as well. We would like some more of that. And actually we have! Pretty much everyone but Bertram, Egon and I have been hit in the head by flying fish during this fantastic sail. We have made a bet who is going to guess the time where we will pass the 2000 nautical mile line with distance left to Nuku Hiva. Of course I am winning this one. The price is a shower in real fresh water and 8 pilsners when we hit shore. On top of that, I bet a dollar with Rob that I would win. Planning to spend that on something wonderful!

Yeah... uhmmm... Hehehe... Bertram is teasing a bit, since I only write in Danish and not English, so I am dictating to him instead.

I am thinking it is fantastic that not one of us have been seasick yet. Actually none of us are sick at all! Two weeks to go, where are we going? Nuku Hiva and then Tahiti. I believe this is going to be pretty amazing. Beautiful islands and beautiful people everywhere. I am really looking forward to going snorkeling and diving in these exotic places and maybe buy some presents for my little family. Recently I proposed to my wife. That’s what a sail like this can do to you, when you are far away from home. I am really looking forward to seeing them again... In a month. I love you all!

Report from Bosun Bertram:

254 nautical miles in the last 24 hours and a new speed record of amazing

14.8 knots with Robert at the wheel! We are coming to the end of our 5th full day and have now put behind us a little over a 1,000 nautical miles. That’s more than 200 nautical miles a day on average. We are not being naive here, obviously we won't be able to maintain this speed for the whole crossing - still the idea that we could actually arrive in just 10 days from now is brining laughter to the cockpit.

The wind is still steadily out of the south-south east with around 20 knots giving us a perfect angle of around 100 degrees to the wind. The fact that we are going this fast almost dead on target 2,000 miles from our destination is nothing but incredible. Spirits are high on board and we are spending the days by the wheel covered in sunscreen having amazing meals in the sun and under the stars.

Local time on board is 10:00 and our current position is 5,28.11S , 105,58.36W.
