Nicola grew up on the Isle of Wight (UK) and enjoyed sailing and water sports. Unfortunately, she does not get much opportunity to do play in the water now that she lives in London. However, since being selected for Oceans of Hope she has been able to do some sailing.
Nicola retired from work this year due to MS and is now adjusting to a new lifestyle and a loss of confidence in her abilities. When she heard about Oceans of Hope and met Mikkel and the team in Portsmouth, it gave her a sense of hope and excitement… that she and others with MS could still have adventures and challenges.
In her own words:
“I still can't believe that I have been lucky enough to be selected, it is a dream come true for me to have such an adventure. Of course it is scary too! So many challenges to overcome, travelling alone, managing fatigue, living on a boat....but I know the sense of achievement that we will have will be unbeatable. I am really looking forward to meeting some amazing people too.”
